Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program
The Senior Farmers’ Market program provides vouchers for older adults who meet financial eligibility to purchase fresh fruit and vegetables at participating Greater Fredericksburg farmers’ markets. The income guidelines are updated annually and based on the Federal income guidelines. Applications are accepted for a limited time. Applicants must submit a new application each year.
Local produce is fresher because it doesn’t have to travel as far before it is consumed and can be picked at its peak ripeness. Once plants are picked, the important nutrients they contain, like Vitamins A, B, C, and E as well as Calcium, Fiber, and Potassium, begin to deteriorate.
