Emergency Assistance

Providing financial aid and other resources, including referrals to other public and private agencies, to persons 60 and older who have an emergency need for help. The program provides for immediate and short-term assistance in getting resources in an emergency that endangers the health or well-being of older persons.  

Home Delivered Meals

Home Delivered Nutrition is intended to provide dietary support for homebound individuals who are unable to cook or prepare meals for themselves and do not have access to adequate nutrition.

Homemaker Services

Homemaker services include light housekeeping, essential shopping, and small meal preparation to those unable to complete these tasks on their own.

Information & Referral Services

The process of assessing a client or caregiver and referring them to a service provided directly by the agency (HGAAA), through a subcontractor, or directly assisting them with obtaining needed services, supports and/or resources and, if necessary, advocating with entities on their behalf.

Legal Assistance (Referral)

With funding provided under the Older American’s Act, HGAAA provides funding to Rappahannock Legal Services, to support legal assistance to older individuals (60 years of age or older) with economic or social needs.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

Ombudsmen advocate for older persons receiving long term care services, whether the care is provided in a nursing home or assisted living facility, or through community-based services to assist persons still living at home. We provide older Virginians, their families and the public with information, advocacy, and assistance to help resolve care problems.

Mobility Options Transportation

Transportation services provide a vital connection to our community. Mobility Options, a program funded in part by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, provides transportation education, information, and referral services, FREDericksburg Regional Transit Travel Training, and limited door-to-door transportation services to Fredericksburg area seniors and people with disabilities.

Options Counseling

Options Counseling is available to all persons 60 years of age or older or persons 18 or over with a disability. Options counselors assist persons to understand self-directed and agency supports using a person-centered approach. The individual is made aware of services available in the community that can meet his/her needs.

Senior Cafes

RAAA’s Senior Cafe’s provide nutritional, social, recreational, and physical activities in addition to transportation, shopping, and events. For more information or to visit a cafe please contact HGAAA.

Senior Community Service Employment Program (Title V)

The Senior Community Service Employment Program is a training program for those 55 years and over, low income and unemployed and has two primary goals:

  1. Advance economic self-sufficiency for program participants through employment training and job placement; and
  2. Promote useful opportunities for community service activities through community service employment partnerships.

Telephone Reassurance – Checking

Regular, pre-scheduled calls to homebound older adults to reduce isolation and provide routine safety checks.

Transportation

Individuals are eligible for Transportation Services if they are 60 years of age or older, lack the ability to transport themselves, and lack other means of transportation. Priority shall be given to older individuals who are in the greatest economic and social need, with preference given to low-income minority individuals and to those older persons residing in rural or geographically isolated areas.

Virginia Insurance Counseling Assistance Program (VICAP)

Individual insurance counseling assistance is available through the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP). VICAP counselors at HGAAA can help you resolve claims or billing problems. They can also assist you with filing for benefits, and sorting through complicated statements and notices. Trained VICAP counselors provide confidential assistance to individuals free of charge.

Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP)

The Virginia Senior Medicare Patrol’s (SMP) mission is to empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education.  The Virginia SMP works with local AAA’s and volunteers to provide information, conduct educational presentations and attend events to share information with the public.
